Tips and Shortcuts
RecWizard is a Windows based program. While the
typical Windows menus are not shown on the individual dialog
windows, the same windows shortcuts that are in every Windows
program will apply to RecWizard.
If you don't regularly use the Windows shortcuts,
here are some of them - the ones we think will be most useful to you
in using RecWizard:
Copy and Paste Information
Sometimes you will have
information that is almost the same for several reconciling items.
Or you may have a reconciling item this month that is very similar
to a reconciling item from last month. To avoid typing extensive
descriptions over again, simply use the Copy and Paste functions.
-
Copy
-
Highlight the text you want
to copy. You can do this by using your
mouse and left clicking and dragging across the area you
want to copy. To use your keyboard, hold down the <Shift> key while you
use the directional arrows on your keyboard to highlight the
information you want to copy.
-
Copy the text.
Using the mouse, right click on the text that you
highlighted and select Copy from the drop down menu. Using the keyboard,
press <Ctrl+C>.
You will now have to
close the dialog window you just copied the information from, and
open the dialog window you want to paste to. For example, you may
have opened a reconciling item and copied the text. You will now
close that reconciling item and open a new reconciling item to past
the copied text into.
-
Paste
-
Using the mouse. Right click
in the area you want to paste the data into and select Paste
from the drop down menu.
-
Using the keyboard. Make sure
the cursor is in the area you want to paste into, then press <Ctrl+V>.
Don't forget to edit the information
that you just pasted. Sometimes the details may change slightly, so
make sure the description is adjusted accordingly.
Shortcut Key
Combinations
Most of the dialog
windows in RecWizard include "Shortcut Key Combinations".
When you see an item with a letter underlined, the combination of
holding down the <Alt> key then pressing that letter will either execute the task (if it is a
button) or take you to that field (if it is a field that should be
filled in).
If you prefer using the
keyboard instead of always reaching for your mouse, this can save
you some time.
Here is an example using
the General Ledger Reconciliation Summary Report date dialog window ...

-
<Alt+K> - will
generate the GLRSR for only the Key Control Accounts.
-
<Alt+T> - will
generate the GLRSR for only the Active Accounts.
-
<Alt+A> - will
generate the GLRSR for All Accounts.
-
<Alt+C> - will Cancel
the action of generating the GLRSR.
Viewing Multiple Months
Sometimes you will want
to look at past month reconciliations to make sure you are handling
similar items the same way every month. While RecWizard does not
allow you to open multiple windows, there is an easy work-around.
-
First - select and open
the reconciliation you want to work on, for example - Accounts
Receivable for the accounting period ending December 31, 2010.
-
Second - open
RecWizard
from your Start menu again. You will now have two sessions of RecWizard running at the same time.
-
Third - select
and open the reconciliation you want to look at to compare with
this month's reconciliation, for example - Accounts Receivable
for the accounting period ending September 30, 2010.
-
Fourth - toggle back and
forth between the reconciliations to view the information for both
periods. You may be able to re-size your windows so you can view
them both at the same time. That depends on the resolution of your
monitor, though. To toggle back and forth you can either select the
proper reconciliation from your Windows taskbar, or you can use the
<Alt+Tab> keys to move back and forth.
Want to see even more
months at the same time? No problem. Just open more sessions of
RecWizard. There is no limit to the number of RecWizard sessions
that you can have open at any one time.
