RecWizard is not only a practical tool for professional accountants, it provides a basic understanding of accounting principles for accounting staff who don't have a formal accounting education.

The RecWizard software includes this Tutorial to assist you in...

  1. Learning how to use the program
  2. Giving you some basic understanding of accounting and bookkeeping procedures if you have not had any formal training or education
  3. Suggesting ways to set up your individual reconciliations to best meet your needs

While there are links back and forth throughout the Tutorial, we suggest that you first review the sections on Account Types and Reconciliation Types before you begin setting up your own accounts and prepare reconciliations.

Even better than just doing that is to read completely the section titled Getting Started. This will lay out specifically the steps you should take to set up your RecWizard software to meet your needs from the start. Once you have completed that section you can return to this page (the Home page) and continue on.

You should also make sure you know how to access the RecWizardTutorialReconciliations database. This database includes all the information that appears on the sample reconciliations in the tutorial. While you're learning to use RecWizard you might want to try things out without affecting your live data. The tutorial database is a good place to do that.

Account Types and Reconciliation Types are very important because the specific settings you use for an account will determine the way the program will prompt you for information and perform calculations for your final reports. While you can change the Account Type or Reconciliation Type at any time, you may wind up losing some of your data by doing that. If you are going to change a Reconciliation Type you should print out all reconciliations that you have completed for that account in case the new Reconciliation Type handles reconciling items differently than the original Reconciliation Type. You would then have to re-enter the information to bring the new reconciliation up to date.

Obviously doing it right the first time is best.

You will also find some helpful advice in the way the reconciliations are set up and the items we have chosen to show as activity in the accounts. All of the Sample Accounts are based on real life accounting situations. Only the names of the characters have been changed to protect the innocent.

We are always looking for ways to improve RecWizard, so if you have any suggestions for changes to the software or the Tutorial, please Contact Us.
